Stir Up Something Thrilling with a Slide-in Electric Range

You’ve settled the gas or electric range debate, and now you’re thinking about the range style. Maybe you’re considering a built-in electric range for a seamless-looking kitchen? Perhaps a slide-in electric range?

No doubt you have questions about whether a slide-in range is best, but thankfully we have the answers you’re looking for.

What is a slide-in electric range?

A slide-in electric range is a built-in electric range that you slide flush between your countertops. Most slide-ins have slightly protruding cooktops and contoured sides to keep food from falling through the cracks.

And since these are meant to create a seamless appearance, typically slide-in electric range ovens do not feature a backsplash. Instead, the controls are located either on the front just above the oven door or on the top.

What is the difference between a slide-in and a drop-in range?

The main difference between a slide-in electric range and a drop-in electric range is the installation. Namely, a drop-in range needs a modified cabinet base to support the appliance and a cabinet front panel to create a fully finished look. Slide-in ranges do not need customized cabinetry.

Also, another difference is that drop-in ranges don’t have warming or storage drawers; Slide-in ranges will sometimes feature a storage or warming drawer for your convenience.

Which cooktop is best for slide-in electric ranges?

The best cooktop for slide-in electric ranges depends on personal preference.

  • Coil cooktop ranges: These feature metal coils and drip pans and produce high heat.
  • Smooth-top ranges: These feature a smooth top, either glass or ceramic, with radiant elements underneath the surface.
  • Induction ranges: These also feature a smooth top but with an electromagnetic field underneath the top (compatible cookware required).

Keep in mind that glass smooth-top slide-in electric ranges are prone to scratches, while ceramic is vulnerable to chipping from dropped pans.

What other features do slide-in electric ranges have?

Slide-in electric ranges have plenty of features that will electrify your cooking, like the following list.

  • Ranges with Air-Fry use dry heat to crisp food to golden perfection for healthier meals.
  • Ranges with convection use a fan to circulate the air in the oven for food cooked quickly and more evenly.
  • Slide-in electric ranges with downdraft will pull vapors and odors down and out from your kitchen (and eliminate the need for a separate range hood!)
  • Slide-in electric ranges with induction cooking will heat just the cookware, and they do so faster and with more precise heat.
  • Burners with bridgeable elements let you use griddles and other extended cookware for evenly cooked food.
  • Double oven electric ranges that slide in will double your cooking fun and cook meals in half the time.
